8 Must Try Restaurants Puerto Escondido
Puerto Escondido has a wide variety of restaurants serving up a mix of traditional Mexican food and exotic cuisines. There are hundreds of delicious restaurants to choose from, but in today's post I’ve narrowed my list of favorites down to eight restaurants. I’ll be sharing a range of places that satisfy different needs such as authentic, healthy, exotic, coworking, chill vibes, etc. I’m gluten-intolerant, so in case you are too, you should know that every restaurant on this list has gluten-free options. So now let's jump in, it might be a good idea to open up your maps app and save your favorites as we go through the list.
The first four restaurants on the list are all authentic, local Mexican restaurants, with delicious food at a great value!
Best Antojitos: Antojitos Regionales Las Juquileñas
Number one is Antojitos Regionales Las Juquileñas. Antojitos also known as street snacks or appetizers in Mexico include different mixes of corn tortillas with meats, vegetables, beans, among other toppings. It’s a similar experience as going out for tapas, as you can order a few different ones with different toppings and have a mix of delicious flavors. This restaurant has an open kitchen so you can see them cooking right in front of you, and has the best selection of antojitos I have seen in Puerto Escondido.
Best Tacos: La Ola Taqueria
Located in the heart of La Punta, this mom and pop restaurant, La Ola Taqueria opens up at night and serves up some of the freshest and cheapest tacos. The place is no frills, it's just a dirt floor with some shared tables, and a family cooking up tacos on an open grill in the middle of the restaurant. Make sure to try their famous Al Pastor or Veggie Tacos. They also don’t serve alcohol, so it's BYOB.
Best Authentic: Casa De Los Abuelos
Another authentic option in La Punta is Casa De Los Abuelos. They serve a little bit of everything typical from the Oaxaca region including seafood, mole, which is a must-try while in Oaxaca, tacos, antojitos, etc. Their small eating garden is adorable with plants, vintage wooden tables, and cool music.
Best Views: Mercado Zicatela
Situated on the main road, overlooking the shoreline of Puerto Escondido is Mercado Zicatela. Inside this market you have dozens of food stalls and restaurants serving up delicious home made cuisines. If you walk to the back of the market you will find a row of restaurants all with a stunning panoramic view. It’s a great relaxing place to enjoy breakfast or lunch. Note that they do close at 6pm, so come before then.
Best For Working: Selma
Selma has a laid back vibe with its ocean views and sand floor. It has an extensive menu of coffee drinks and smoothies, great Wifi, and therefore quickly became our go-to place for working. They also have a nice brunch menu serving traditional Mexican food as well as other cuisines like burgers and sushi. It's open from early morning until late night, making it a great spot to work at any hour.
Best Chill Vibes: Savana
Savana is a treehouse-like restaurant with a view overlooking the beach and surf spot right out front. It’s also a nice place for working with its good WiFi and steady ocean breeze blowing through. We ordered the Chilaquiles from here a few times and it was delicious. In the afternoons it becomes a great place to come enjoy happy hour cocktails or snacks, and sometimes even has live music.
Best Healthy Eats: Spirulina
Situated up in a thatched hut with a view of the sea, Spirulina has a chill earthy vibe to it. The menu here is quite possibly one of our favorites all-around, with an array of fruit and veggie packed smoothies, juices, and plates. They serve up big healthy portions at very affordable prices. It's a great place to hangout- we often saw people reading, writing, working, or playing cards.
Best Exotic Cuisine: El Sultan
If you’re craving a taste of something flavorful and different, El Sultan is the place to come. They have a simple menu with quality Middle Eastern dishes. We fell in love with their Falafel Hummus plate and Chicken Schwarma Salad, and ended up sharing those two plates every time we came because they were just so good! They also have typical dishes like Tabbouleh, stuffed grape leaves, salads, along with a breakfast menu.
That wraps up our list of restaurant favorites! I hope you added some of these to your maps app. Don’t forget to leave a comment letting me know what restaurant sounds like your favorite. Thanks so much for watching and I’ll catch ya later!
