6:30am Sunrise
6:45am Go for our morning run along the beach
7:30am Head down to the beach to drink mate, and admire the simple beauty of the ocean
8:30am Go to one of our favorite coworking cafes, Selma, to drink a coffee and get some work done.
10:00am Take a car and go for a drive along the coast. We explored a bit of the south side of Puerto Escondido and stopped at a deserted beach to check it out and take some photos with this vintage VW Beetle we borrowed.
12:00pm Lunch at Mercado Zicatela. It has several amazing food stalls to choose from with views overlooking the sea. It’s a great place to grab a home-cooked authentic Mexican meal with a view.
1:00pm Go to Playa Coral, a hidden beach. You need to go from Playa Bacocho and walk around the bend and there you will come upon Playa Coral. It’s a small strip of white sand paradise that’s the perfect place to spend a morning or afternoon.
3:30pm Take a juice in a local cafe to refresh and re-energize.
5:30pm Walk down to the beach for sunset. It’s a ritual here in Puerto, everyone gathers down along the shoreline to witness the beautiful painted skies each night.
7:00pm That night we had the opportunity to go to an annual festival in a neighboring village, Bajos de Chila. We were told it was a dangerous festival and people die there every year, so we went to find out why. You’ll find out why soon… We walked around and found an amazing taco stand serving up all sorts of delicious tacos. We kept ordering more until we tried all of them. Then the dance show started, where several different towns came together, each performing a traditional dance from their village. Then, the real action started. Some sparks were flying during a dance show. But that was just the start of it. Then the fireworks show began, and it was unlike anything we had ever seen. We kept our distance and hung out at the edge of the crowd so we could make an escape if needed. Was it dangerous? Yes. Could it kill people? Definitely. Did we run for our lives at the end? You betcha!
